Turtlehead

This mountain is definitely aptly named.

From the view here in West Sound, the head perks up above the trees, while the neck dips just below the horizon and Turtleback looms to the right. Lucky for us today, almost the entire mountain is open to hikers and adventurers year-round. 

In addition, a new trail has just connected the peak of Turtleback, named Ship’s Peak, over to Turtlehead, running along the neck like a spine. Take an afternoon to explore the new trails and see new views over to Deer Harbor from the top of the head. Bring a picnic and the family for a lovely fall island outing.
