Up until now, many islanders were starting to think this
would be another relatively mild winter, with little snow. We have all been
proved very, very wrong. Snow has made its presence known on every corner of the
island, covering Eastsound in a thick blanket of whiteness.

School has been postponed, two-wheeled cars have been told
to stay home, and many islanders have done the same, curling up by the fire.

Of course the snow is not a total buzz kill. Besides the
extraordinary beauty of the island coated in sparkly white, the snow provides a
myriad of activities we don’t often enjoy.

One ambitious agent, Kristen Slabaugh, took the opportunity
to go skiing on Mount Constitution. There is no shortage of year-round sports
opportunities here on Orcas Island. All it takes is a little creativity and
some warm clothing.
